This past week, my wife and I closed on another investment property—a true “diamond in the rough.”
In reality, it was a full-blown hoarder house, the kind where you open the door and immediately wonder, where do we even start?
We spent 20 hours over the weekend cleaning, sorting, and prepping for an estate sale.
And while the work was intense—heavy lifting, sorting through decades of stuff, and filling trash bags—something beautiful happened: we were in sync.
She and I naturally fell into our roles.
I tackled the big moves; she orchestrated the details. We traded laughs, inside jokes, and encouragement like we were back in our early dating days.
Her love language is quality time, and this…this was our version of it.
Not dinner at a fancy restaurant. Not a vacation on the beach.
Just the two of us, elbow-deep in boxes, working toward a shared goal. Our daughter even jumped in, organizing antique books and picking out treasures.
We found coins and stamps for my mom (a collector), rare memorabilia, old maps, paintings, and even an antique stove we think might be worth $5K.
Renovations start in a week. This week, our mission is simple: sell as much as possible and donate the rest.
For us, it’s more than just clearing out a property—it’s a game, a treasure hunt, and a form of connection.
Here’s the bigger lesson:
Partnership isn’t just about dividing tasks, it’s about multiplying strengths.
Quality time doesn’t have to be glamorous—it just has to be intentional.
Wealth building as a family is one of the most powerful ways to create both financial freedom and deeper relationships.
At the end of the weekend, we were exhausted…and accomplished. And as I looked across the table at her, sweaty and tired, I realized: this is the good stuff.
So whether it’s a business, a property, or a life project—find your partner, pick your game, and play to win together.
